DAKAR, 21 August 2014 (IRIN) – Ebola’s devastation in West Africa has catapulted experimental drugs from labs to patients and shaken up vaccine development, which was hitherto patchy as outbreaks of the virus have tended to be spasmodic and geographically limited.
NAIROBI, 13 August 2014 (IRIN) – Some 20 million people are facing acute food insecurity in eastern and central Africa, with most of them being at “crisis” and “emergency” levels, according to aid agencies. This figure compares unfavorably with 15.8 million people in July 2013.

Patrick Avery, one of our senior instructors, returned from a trip home to Kenya in July. We assessed the situation on the ground and given the ongoing uncertainty from recent security incidents in Kenya, and the potential risk highlighted by the British FCO travel advice warning, we have regretfully decided to postpone the running of the course this year. We intend to run the course next year and we would be delighted if you could join us in September 2015. On a more positive front there is the exciting potential for a new course for 2015 involving trekking in Nepal.
